Beta Glucan

“A Natural ingredient for food, beverage, supplement products, clinically proven to help strengthen the immune system.”

Beta-glucans are derived from many sources including; oats, barley, seaweed, as well as many types microorganisms (bacteria, yeast and fungi). Beta - glucans comprise a group of β-D- glucose polysaccharides with significantly differing physicochemical properties dependent on source.

While they all share a “common” ß form of chemical bond between the individual glucose units, there are many subtle, but important differences in structure within the betaglucan family that lead to large differences in function and potential health benefits.

Types

Each type of beta-glucan comprises a different molecular backbone, level of branching, and molecular weight which affects its solubility and physiological impact.

The four most popular sources of Beta glucan are:

Barley - A source of dietary fiber and heart health. This material is the newest kid on the block.

Mushrooms - Studies show mushroom derived glucan help support immune system function however not at the effectiveness of yeast derived glucan.

Oat - A source of dietary fiber and heart health and has shown beneficial hypocholesterolemic effects.

Yeast - One of the most studied, this one is considered "the mother of all Beta glucan's" for its immune system support results as well as in a wide variety of other areas. A great deal of detailed research ranging over 45 years has been done on this yeast-derived material.
